End of Year Party and Annual General Meeting 2018

Good evening Members!

I am pleased to communicate to you that tickets for our annual End of Year Party are now available for purchase at a flat rate of $25 dollars from all executives. 


As a reminder, our  End of Year Party will be at the GSA commons, 1337 College Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7N 0W6 on December 22, 2018 at 4pm.

Minutes of GCAS General Meeting Held on Saturday September 30 2017

The total number of members in attendance was 33.

The meeting was called to order by Jennifer Nyarko at 5:15pm and the agenda was unanimously approved.

  1. Ratification of Executives

The appointment of the following members of the executive was ratified by members:

  • Jennifer Nyarko - President
  • Mavis Owusu-Boadi – Vice President
  • Robert Kwofie – Financial Secretary
  • Maa Quartey – Secretary
  • Francis Kwadwo Frimpong – Student Liaison Officer

 

  1. President’s Address and Financial Report

The president’s address was presented by Jennifer Nyarko. Included in her address were:

  • A report on a survey carried out with the aim of obtaining feedback and ideas from members of the organization
  • An appeal to members to volunteer for the different committees of the association
  • A review of the association’s charitable status

A report on the association’s financial status was presented by Robert Kwofie.

 

  1. Introduction of Electoral Committee

Members of the electoral commission (listed below) were introduced by the president:

  • Samira Sumaila
  • Rosina Foli
  • Derrick Owusu Kodua

Nominations were then open for the 2017 election of GCAS executives.

 

  1. Dissussion/Suggestions

It was suggested that family memberships be offered at $75 to enhance income generation for the association. After discussions by members, it was concluded that the majority of members were not currently interested in family memberships and the idea was shelved.

Changes to the website were suggested and members were invited to volunteer to help with this.

 

The meeting was moved to a close by Edith Conacher and seconded by Mavis Owusu-Boadi and Maa Quartey.

Following the meeting, the newcomers’ social was started at 18:33hrs.

Independence Anniversary Celebration

Dear Member,

Please join us in celebrating Ghana’s 61st Independence Anniversary. 

 

DATE: Saturday March 10, 2018

VENUE: Salvation Army Temple, 38 Bateman Crescent, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7H 3C4

(Parking is available for free at this venue)

TIME: 4pm to 8:30pm

 

Please note that:

We will have a potluck dinner to give both attendees with Ghanaian roots and visitors alike the opportunity to sample food from all over Ghana. As such, we would be grateful if each member could come with something to share. 

To enable us raise funds for the association, we will have available for sale tickets for a 50/50 raffle – the winner of this raffle draw will get half of the takings from ticket sales for the night.

In order to ensure continued input from all members, there will be a suggestion box on the night – we invite members to take advantage of this.

Finally, we would like to take up a free-will offering to bolster the association’s funds. Please come with a generous gift!
